Here it goes

Okay, so I know deciding what ring to get the girl of your dreams is hard enough with someone who has thought about it. I can't imagine how hard Vilja would be to get for without a little help. Since she hasn't really thought about it, I did some prying and talking and this is the best way I could think of to help you out. After much prodding (she would be happy with something you whittled. She only wants a ring because it tells people she is married), here are the things she wants:

1. Something really simple
2. Silver in color
3. square cut diamond
4. Low setting of the diamond
5. She doesn't care about a wedding band either way.
6. She said, and I quote: "I really don't care. I just want nothing to do with it."


My personal opinion (with Vilja in mind) on each of these points is as follows:


1. nothing to add. Just please nothing at all swirly etc.

2. Go for white gold. People try to convince you that platinum is better but it is not for many reasons (one being that it actually scratches more easily), the primary reason being its ridiculous pricing. Palladium is brittle but no one will tell you that. Just go with white gold.

3. There are a lot of cuts that are square. My favorites are
the radiant and princess cuts. The radiant has more facets so the diamond will look more brilliant. Here is a diagram so you know what your options are. (Please do not choose the Asscher whatever you do. Cushion and Old Miner have arched edges.)


4. Setting the diamond low makes it so the ring is less in the way. It's not only less annoying but it's a lot safer for the diamond. And you won't lose out on any light reflection either.

5. I think a wedding band is a good idea because first of all, it lets people know she is married and not just engaged (which I get a lot because I do not have a wedding band). Second, since she wants it simple it will not add much price onto the ring. Always a plus.

6. Since she does not want to do the shopping and it would be difficult to explain to you the kinds of rings we talked about, I tried to find some pictures that would help you to see. They all feature the princess cut diamond.

1) This is the most basic. One of my favorites for Vilja. (There are 4 favorites)

2) The band on this one tapers near the diamond.
3) This one is set with pressure.


4) I think Vilja would like this one. I also think it would look nice on her finger.(Favorite #2)

5) Pretty. These 2 pics are of the same ring from different angles. (favorite #3)

6) This one is really simple and pretty. A bit more feminine than some of the others. I somehow lost the view from the top.


7) Again, I lost the image from the top but it's simple and classy (looks a lot like #5 from the top view)


8) Something a little different.


9) Don't like this one, but I wanted you to see one that has the square diamond rotated 45 degrees. It can be pretty.


10) Too fancy for Vilja but the diamond is rotated again.


11) I used photoshop to try to show you what a rotated diamond would look like in a setting Vilja would like. It's a rough job but here is the result. (Favorite #3)

So that should at least get you started thinking about rings and the options you have both for diamond cut as well as some settings that I think would suit Vilja. Now, you should decide if you are getting her a wedding band. Here are some options I think she would like:

This one is wide and flat. It would look great next to rings #1 and #11. (ignore the free engravaing part of that pic)

This one in flat on top with nice shape detail. Good with #1 and #11 again.

This one would look good with any ring. I would choose one that is flat instead of domed though.

This one is the same as above only narrower. This would be good for and ring as well. Again, I would choose one with a flat edge instead of domed.
